Dr Sutheeshna Babu. S

In February 2007, Dr Sutheeshna Babu. S (PhD- JNU) took charge of the Institute as Nodal Officer.

Dr. Sutheeshna Babu. S, Nodal Officer of the Institute holds MPhil and PhD degrees in tourism from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Dr. Babu has been a Research Fellow of UGC/CISR during 1990-95. Through, a joint Fellowship programme of the Govt. of India and the Republic of Cyprus, he has attended an FDP in Tourism Planning and Development in Cyprus. He is also a UNWTO certificate holder in ‘Tourism Taxation & Statistics’. For last 16 years, he has been lecturing for the post-graduation level programmes in tourism. Many MDP’s/EDP’s were also conducted on the topics of tourism statistics, visitor management, and customer care systems.

Dr.Babu is specialized in the Beach Tourism planning and development. He did PhD on the topic “Development of Beach Tourism in the West Coast of India: A case study of selected beach resorts from the states of Goa and Keralam”. His other research interests include the tourism policy, transport management and SMTE development. Of late, he is working on the developmental aspects of water sports in India and few studies in the related themes have already been completed. 

Dr. Babu is a serious researcher and has many publications. Recent being an edited book titled Tourism Development Re-visited: Concepts, issues and paradigms published by Response Books, a division of Sage Publishers. He along with his colleagues also authored many reports of advisory/policy-based in nature. Some noticeable being: ‘Problems & Prospects of Accessible Tourism in India’; and ‘Analysing Factors Responsible for Slow-down in Tourist Arrivals in India’ (For Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India); ‘Study on Feasibility of Leisure-watersports in Jammu Region’; Assessment of Safety Infrastructure Requirements and Visitor Management Practices for the Beaches in Kerala’ etc. 

Besides, many presentations have been made/ chaired technical sessions in the national and international conferences/ seminars/ symposiums/ workshops; which include some key note presentations.
